About the Programme

The growing economy of India has brought forth opportunities and challenges. Opportunities for employment in the corporate world or entrepreneurship and challenges by way of competition. This makes it imperative that we have professionals with sound knowledge and exposure of the business environment to take up various challenging positions in the corporate sector of our country. The Course contents of M. Com develops a cadre of young professionals to enter the business world; either as employees or entrepreneurs. The course imparts knowledge in subjects as accounting, managerial, cost as well as corporate, taxation, direct as well as indirect, capital markets, mutual funds etc.
The students are provided exposure by way of industrial visits, internship training and educational trips. Opportunities are also provided for personality development by way of seminars, workshops and group discussions.
On completions of the course, our students will find themselves ready to accept challenging positions in the corporate world or be entrepreneurs themselves, through campus interviews. Self-financed Programme affiliated to Goa University, the M.Com. Programme offered by the college is a two-years full time degree programme – Masters in Commerce. The programme offers specialization in one of the fastest growing area of Accounting and Finance as also in Business Management. The M.Com. pogramme offered by the institution is affiliated to Goa University and is based on the existing course structure for the same programme offered by Goa Business School of Goa University. The M.Com. degree will be awarded by Goa University itself. The intake for the M.Com. programme offered by the college is 50.

M.Com. Programme Outcomes

On successful completion of MCOM programme, students will be able to:
1. Describe advanced concepts, processes and systems in accounting, finance and management.
2. Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of financial services and financial markets mechanisms and
basic knowledge of applicable regulatory provisions and procedures.
3. Evaluate investment and risk-management opportunities available in financial markets with application of analytical techniques.
4. Develop competencies in specialized areas either in accounting with focus on transaction recording, tax planning and valuations for corporate actions or in functional areas of management.
5. Demonstrate ability to identify business opportunities and create entrepreneurial venture. 6. Offer services as teacher, researcher, analyst, or member of staff of accounts/administration in academic or business organizations..

Pogramme Structure and Syllabus

Credits (Theory, Tutorial, Practical):
In order to award M. Com. degree, the candidate must have earned 64 Credits during two years. Of these 32 Credits are from Core Courses and 32 Credits are from Specialisation Courses offered during the Second Year.

Number of Semesters and semester - wise distribution of courses:
The M. Com. Programme is divided in to Four Semesters. Each Semester shall have Four Courses.

Summer Training:
Every student has to undergo 4 weeks Summer Training in industrial organizations to gain hands on experience at the end of Semester II. Students are responsible for identifying the Organisations for their Summer Training Program.

As a part of the M. Com. Programme Dissertation is offered as Optional during the third and fourth semester as per OA-18 in lieu of Two Curses. Those students who are going to be offered the Dissertation Option may opt for 3 Courses each during the Semester III and IV.

Programme Structure

Eligibility criteria:

The eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Com. programme are as under:

(i) Candidates must pass the Bachelor of Commerce degree examination of Goa University or any other recognized University with a minimum of 40% marks.

(ii) The candidates must have appeared for GU-ART admission ranking test conducted by Goa University and obtained an admission rank.

Admission Process

The admission to M.Com. programme takes place in two stages, viz., University Counseling stage and Institutional admission stage.

(I) University Counseling Stage
Counseling process for admission takes place at the Goa University campus.
(i) The admission to the first year of M.Com. program commences with the GU-ART test conducted by Goa University which is held in multiple rounds generally between January and April every year. This examination may be thus conducted even before the conduct of B.Com examinations.
(ii) After the declaration of results of GU-ART examination, the University announces counseling session for all the students having GU-ART rank. During such counseling session, candidates are given an opportunity to select the institution of their choice for admission to M.Com. programme.
(iii) Students desirous of taking admission to M.Com. programme in S. S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics are required to make the choice accordingly. However, this choice is available strictly on merit based on the rank achieved by candidate in GU-ART examination and availability of seats in the institution preferred by the candidates.
(iv) The candidates are required to pay specified amount of fees for confirming their admission to M.Com programme in selected institution.

(II) Institutional admission stage
This process is completed at the institution level.
(i) Subsequently, after the results of B.Com examinations are declared, candidates can purchase the M.Com. programme prospectus from the college office which will provide further details on admission process and documents required.
(ii) The admission process in this institution is online at www.dempocollege.edu.in. Candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions and who have selected this institution at counseling stage are required to fill online admission form on the college website.
(iii) Candidates are then required to download and print the filled application form and submit the same to the college office alongwith balance amount of fees. With this admission to the M.Com. programme is complete.
